Biography
Víctor Carriel Araya (MT, MSc, PhD, MBiol, PhD) is a full professor of human histology and tissue engineering at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Granada (Spain).
He completed his graduate and postgraduate studies at the Universities of Valparaíso (Chile), Granada (Spain), and Ghent (Belgium). His research activities are mainly focused on the fields of histology and tissue engineering, leading the neural engineering research at the Tissue Engineering Group at the University of Granada. Moreover, he has made significant contributions to the development and clinical implementation of some advanced therapy products, most notably an artificial human skin model, the subject of his first doctoral thesis, which is being used in clinical practice in Andalusia, Spain.
He has participated in and led numerous relevant research projects, patented advanced therapy products and published numerous book chapters and scientific articles in indexed journals.
Furthermore, he has supervised 10 doctoral theses and more than 35 master theses to date. Currently, Prof. Carriel coordinates the Official Master’s Program in Tissue Engineering and Advanced Therapies at the University of Granada in Spain.
Finally, Prof. Carriel will host the 8th International Symposium on Peripheral Nerve Regeneration (8th ISPNR), which will take place in Granada in the spring of 2026.
