Biography

Degree of Veterinary Medicine, PhD in Veterinary Sciences from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FMV) of the University of Lisbon (UTL) and Habilitation in Veterinary Sciences from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS) of the University of Porto (UP).

She is currently a Full Professor at the Department of Veterinary Clinics of ICBAS-UP. She is a member of the Scientific and Representative Council and Director of the Doctoral Program in Veterinary Science at ICBAS-UP. Leader of the Research Group and of the Laboratory of Cell-based Therapies at ICBAS-UP.

Scientific coordinator of the Regenerative Medicine and Experimental Surgery subunit of the Center for Animal Science Studies of the Institute of Agricultural and Agri-Food Sciences and Technologies of Porto University (CECA-ICETA-UP) and of the subunit of Comparative and Translational Medicine and Biotechnology of the Associate Laboratory for Animal and Veterinary Science (AL4AnimalS).

 

Member of the European Society for the Study of Peripheral Nerve Repair and Regeneration (ESPNR).

Over the past 15 years, she has coordinated a multidisciplinary research group in Regenerative Medicine and Experimental Surgery, developing biomaterials and cell-based therapies with application in peripheral nerve regeneration, bone regeneration, skin regeneration, joint regeneration, genitourinary diseases and ophthalmic diseases, developing new therapies from a One Health perspective.

She is the supervisor of several PhD and Master´s degree students. She is the author and co-author of numerous scientific papers and book chapters, and inventor of five international patents, one of them related to the field of peripheral nerve regeneration.

She is the principal researcher and a member of several national and international scientific projects with competitive funding.
